Use caution paying insane prices to buy land.
And when renting, get with with other SLers to learn if the virtual landlords are good and stable.
Sims with damage enabled are rare, but if you see a heart by your name that means the area allows attacks. Do not worry, if attacked you will return unharmed to your home. So that covers the basics!
